Grand Junction Company Sends Special Care Packages to Colorado Soldiers in Iraq

Grand Junction, CO —Action Publishing, Inc., is donating 5000 of the company’s popular Action Agenda day planners to the Fort Carson Army Base for distribution to American soldiers in Iraq. The planners will be delivered to Fort Carson this week, with some slated for immediate shipment to Iraq and some reserved as “welcome home” gifts for troops returning from duty overseas.

“Our men and women in uniform have done so much for every one of us,” said Grady Busse, president of Action Bindery. “It’s impossible to fully convey our gratitude, but we wanted to show that we recognize their many great sacrifices and appreciate their noble service to our country.”

The donated day planners cover the 2004 calendar year and feature motivational quotes, full-color photos, and a special cover with the Fort Carson logo. The first page of each planner contains a message of thanks to the troops and explains that the gift is intended as “a tangible symbol of the grateful nation that supports you, remembers you, and eagerly awaits your safe return.”

Busse said many of Action’s vendors were also eager to express their support, and several donated materials or services to make the gift possible. FiberMark provided cover material, TechStrand donated binding wire, FedEx shipped some materials to Action at no cost, and YellowFreight will transport the agendas from Action’s headquarters in Grand Junction to Fort Carson free of charge.

Approximately 10,000 troops from Fort Carson are currently serving in Iraq. With peak deployments exceeding 12,000 soldiers, nearly 90% of the installation’s permanent military personnel have participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This is the largest deployment from Fort Carson since the Viet Nam era.

Action Publishing, Inc., is a top manufacturer of academic day planner calendars (Action Agendas) used by teachers and students nationwide, as well as custom organizational tools for professionals and business. Action was founded in 2001 after the purchase and relocation of a prominent Grand Junction manufacturing firm left the founders unemployed. Since then, Action has enjoyed great success, becoming the fastest tenant of the Grand Junction Business Incubator to reach $1 million in sales (10 months). Action has also contributed a great deal to the local economy, as over 90% of its sales income comes from outside Colorado.
